Characters – that’s the foundation on which this show rests. With the first scene of the first episode cracking off with a shoot out, resulting in a Miami gun thug’s death at the hands of U.S. Marshal, Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant), a chain reaction storms into the law man’s life, sending him back to the home he swore he’d never return to, Harlan, Kentucky.

One man chases another man. We don’t know why, and we don’t know how he will survive, but somehow Pierce Brosnan can keep the chase going for a wonderful 115 minutes. Revenge, indeed, is best served cold.
